Who is Your Editor?

I am currently editing my manuscript (for the 100th time), but would also like to have a professional editor look at it. I was wondering if anyone has an editor or an editing service they love and would like to recommend. And if you don’t mind me asking (this part is optional), can you give me a ballpark figure of how much they charge? Please share some positive experiences you’ve had with them too.

Thanks, and have a great weekend!

  1. Ooh! This is exciting that you are now on to your editor search. 🙂 My wonderful editor is Shelley Holloway from Holloway House. She was very attentive to the story and let me know when I needed to add details for more clarification. Her price for my novel was $1200 – now, that included two edits and a proofread. You can find less expensive editors too, but she truly is worth the cost.

  2. Corey,
My editor, for my memoir “Forty Acres of Heaven” is Carolyn Walker. She works through All Writers Workshop at http://www.allwriters.org/faculty.asp Carolyn is their “memoir” editor and coach. Kathie Gorgio is one of their novel editors. They charge $300 for 20 pages and an hour phone call. The way we work it is I sent my entire manuscript to Carolyn. She edits and proofs 20 pages per week, emails the changes and comments back to me. We then schedule a phone session to go over any questions and comments. I’ve really enjoyed working with Carolyn.

I haven’t done any fiction, yet, but liked the conversation that I had with Kathie.

I think a lot of it really depends upon your level of comfort and ease of communication with your editor. Interview a few people and pick one you like.

    Good luck!
